Superintelligence and the language of possibility.

Artificial intelligence, general intelligence, superintelligence, hyperintelligence. Ambitious words deserve clear meanings.

Different words, different questions

Artificial intelligence describes a broad field. General intelligence concerns breadth and adaptability across tasks. Superintelligence is commonly used for a hypothetical level of capability substantially beyond humans across a broad range of cognitive work.

These terms do not form a universally agreed ladder. A conversation becomes more useful when the speaker explains the abilities, comparison group and conditions they have in mind.

At Hypetell, hyperintelligence expresses our ambition to connect intelligence across tools, disciplines and experiences. It is a brand idea and a research direction, rather than a recognised technical milestone or a claim that such a system already exists.

What the evidence can support

The International AI Safety Report 2026 describes capabilities improving unevenly and substantial uncertainty about future trajectories. A research result can be significant without settling when, or whether, a much broader level of intelligence will arrive.

Our editorial approach is to distinguish observations, interpretations and scenarios. An observed capability can be tested. An interpretation proposes what it means. A scenario explores what might follow if a set of assumptions holds.

A useful way to discuss the future

Start with a specific possibility: suppose AI systems become much better at designing and evaluating scientific experiments. Which parts of the process would improve? Which bottlenecks would remain physical, organisational or financial? Who would decide what to investigate?

That discussion is more productive than assigning a confident date to an undefined destination. It invites researchers, builders and users to identify the evidence that would change their minds.

Ambition becomes more useful when its assumptions are visible.

An open horizon

We are interested in what increasingly capable intelligence could make possible: better tools for discovery, more accessible ways to learn and new forms of creativity. Each possibility deserves its own experiment and its own standard of evidence.

A group working across several fields can connect questions that a single discipline might overlook. Spatial computing raises questions about presence. Agent design raises questions about delegation. Frontier research raises questions about the limits of our measurements.

For Hypetell, that connection is the point: a broad horizon, approached through concrete work.
