CES 2025: AI needs a reason to be there.
The Las Vegas technology gathering raises an enduring product question: what does intelligence make easier?
The moment in context
CES 2025 opened in Las Vegas on 7 January, with the exhibition running through 10 January. The organiser’s opening announcement placed AI among the technologies shaping the show. The show raises a product-design question that extends beyond individual launches.
A large technology exhibition creates a useful comparison: many different products compete to explain why a new capability deserves someone’s attention. The strongest explanation begins with a recognisable task.
Start with the friction
Our suggested way to read a product demonstration is to identify the friction before looking at the feature. Is a person struggling to find information, complete a repetitive action or understand a complex situation? What part of that difficulty can intelligence actually remove?
Imagine a device that offers an AI assistant. A fluent conversation might be pleasant, but a more useful test would follow the task from the first request to a completed result. The interface should make the result easy to inspect and the next step easy to understand.
Look beyond a polished demonstration
A demonstration usually begins under favourable conditions. A buying or development decision needs a broader picture: setup time, network requirements, recurring costs, accessibility and the behaviour when an input is unclear.
We would also ask what happens when the intelligent feature is unavailable. A useful product should explain the situation and offer a sensible route forward. Reliability belongs to the experience, alongside the impressive moment on stage.
What remains useful
For Hypetell, the lasting value of CES is the opportunity to connect ambitious technology with an ordinary human need. A product earns attention when it can describe that relationship clearly.
The question to carry into the next show is straightforward: after the novelty fades, which useful action becomes simpler, clearer or more accessible?
